Graduate Student, MIT, Biology
Sera Thornton

Sera is currently wrapping up her PhD in biology at MIT, and has spent the past several years immersed in the fascinating field of epigenetics, studying how our cells regulate their genes to become specialized cell types. Born into a family of artists, Sera has fallen prey to her own genetics and developed a passion for creating images that explain biological concepts. She plans to meld her various interests into a career at the intersection of biology, education, and graphic design. Along these lines, Sera recently created and curated the graphics for edX/MIT’s massive open online course “7.00x: Introduction to Biology – The Secret of Life.”
