My research is focused on both translational and basic science. I have investigated potential therapeutics for Rett Syndrome, an Autism Spectrum Disorder that primarily affects girls. Of equal interest has been exploring the role of the non-neuronal brain cells called astrocytes to the function of the normal and diseased brain. Outside of lab, I am involved in communicating science to a broad range of audiences, from high school teachers to middle school students. While research continues to be a primary focus, I am continually driven to engage in science education and outreach.
