Nicolas Scrutton Alvarado (he/him/his) is a 3rd year PhD candidate at Northwestern University, in the department of Neurobiology. His current research is focused on investigating how chromatin architecture, the way our DNA is organised inside our cells, impacts brain development in mammals. In his undergraduate institution, Nicolas was the Editor-In-Chief of AU Science Magazine, a student-led quarterly publication discussing the latest scientific research. Currently, he is a co-host and producer of In The Spotlight, a podcast dedicated to exposing and exploring the work of early career researchers, as well as discussing local policy through the lens of scientific and social research. He continues to advocate SciComm opportunities, both written and audiovisual, for all undergraduate and graduate students. In his spare time, Nicolas can often be found nose-deep in a book, cooking a new recipe, or rock climbing with friends.
