Nancy Ruiz is a second year PhD student in Biomedical Engineering. She is part of the Schaffer-Nishimura lab, where she studies the molecular mechanisms leading to cerebral blood flow decrease in Alzheimer’s disease. She accomplishes this with advanced optical techniques, such as multiphoton microscopy, a technology that enables deep imaging into brain of live animals. She has been actively involved in GradSWE (Society of Women Engineers) and GWiS (Graduate Women in Science) where she helps organize Science on Tap, a science communication event triggered to the Ithaca and Cornell community. During her free time, she enjoys cooking, travelling, wildlife photography and salsa dancing.
