Laurissa Christie was raised on a broiler chicken and red deer farm in rural midwestern Ontario. She completed her BSc in Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph and is currently pursuing her Masters at the University of Windsor where she studies Arctic deep-water food webs. While undertaking field work in the Arctic, she strives to connect the local and scientific communities by completing workshops for youth, giving presentations and organizing community meetings. Last year, Laurissa organized a school supplies and sock drive for a school and daycare in Nunavut. She is actively involved in the Canada Wide Science Fair as the Youth Science Canada Alumni Ambassador coordinator and completed the Juneau Icefield Research Program in Alaska. In her spare time, Laurissa enjoys motivational public speaking, travelling, volunteering with several organizations, mentoring youth in science fair, climbing mountains, coaching figure skating, stand up paddle boarding, cross country skiing, surfing, pilates and spending time at her family’s cottage on Lake Huron.
