Erica Palma Kimmerling

Erica is a National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering Predoctoral research fellow at Tufts University. She earned her bachelors of engineering in biomedical engineering at Stony Brook University where she conducted undergraduate research on biological nanomaterials at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).  Her doctoral thesis research focuses on the development of in vitro kidney model systems using three dimensional scaffolds and perfusion bioreactors to mimic in vivo physiology.  Erica has an interest in scientific communication that was fostered during her time at BNL when she participated in a pilot communicating science workshop with Alan Alda. Erica has a specific interest in the network building opportunities between peers and professionals that have become a cornerstone of the ComSciCon workshops.
