Graduate student at Dalhousie University
Emma Finlayson-Trick just completed her MSc in microbiology and immunology at Dalhousie University where she was studying the role of a bacterial protein in Crohn’s disease. Outside the lab, Emma is passionate about science communication and education. She has created workshops for STEMFest, SuperNOVA, and the Discovery Center as well as organized Halifax’s first Science Slam, Human Science Library, and Soapbox Science event. She also founded the blog “Think of the PLoSibilities” that takes open-access scientific articles and synthesizes them into lay summaries. Emma has been recognized for her dedication to research and to the community in the form of a Science Champion award nomination from the Discovery Center and a Governors’ Award from Dalhousie University. She has recently been accepted into the University of British Columbia medical school. She hopes to pursue a career as an infectious disease specialist.
