At the end of 2019, a group of graduate students set off to State College, PA to participate in ComSciCon-SciWri 2019, a special program held in partnership between ComSciCon, the National Association of Science Writers (NASW), and the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW) at the ScienceWriters2019 Annual Meeting.  ScienceWriters always provides science writers with a mix of professional development workshops, briefings on the latest scientific research, extensive networking opportunities, and local science field trips.  With ComSciCon in the mix, ScienceWriters2019 features additional, unique interactions between STEM graduate students, leading science writers from around the world, and the scientists reporting some of the most groundbreaking discoveries driving science journalism.

For lots more information about the ComSciCon-SciWri 2019 event and its impacts on attendees, see the attached report (PDF) as well as the remarkable pieces of science writing produced by its graduate student attendees and edited and published by CASW.

The ComSciCon-SciWri program, operated for the second time in 2019, is now in planning for a third run this Fall. Because ComSciCon-SciWri 2019 was generously sponsored by Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), attendees received travel support to go to State College for the event.  We hope to offer the same benefit to attendees in 2020.  Stay tuned to our website for announcements about ComSciCon-SciWri 2020 - we hope to see you there!
