We are pleased to announce Communicating Science at ScienceWriters2015 (ComSciCon-SciWri15) which will take place at MIT from October 9th to October 12th 2015 (Columbus day weekend). ComSciCon-SciWri15 is a pilot program scheduled in coordination with ScienceWriters2015, an annual gathering of science communicators and journalists held jointly by the National Association of Science Writers (NASW) and the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW). The event will provide Boston-area ComSciCon alumni with the opportunity to build upon their ComSciCon experience through additional writing practice and interactions with professional science writers.
ComSciCon-SciWri15 participants will attend the ScienceWriters meeting, whose programming includes professional development workshops for science writers and briefings on emerging science issues and research presented by eminent scientists. In addition, they will take part in complementary sessions meant to strengthen their non-technical writing skills. Each student will compose a news story based on a scientific discovery presented at the conference in collaboration with professional science writers.
ComSciCon-SciWri15 is sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing. Applications will be available in July.
