FEBRUARY 29th-MARCH 1st, 2020
The fourth annual ComSciCon-Houston Workshop will take place over a span of two days, February 29th-March 1st, 2020 at Rice University. Participants in this workshop will interact closely with experts skilled in communicating science through oral, written, and digital media, as well as gain insight on how to utilize these skills throughout their careers.
This year, we are going to focus on STORYTELLING! Over the two days, there will be workshops and panels with invited local experts dedicated to written, oral, and visual communication. The workshops will focus on a variety of topics, including:
- The fundamentals behind giving an effective oral presentation
- Designing an abstract-style graphic for illustrating technical concepts
- Writing about research at a higher level which can be accessible to wider audiences
- Combining improv and storytelling
During the two-day conference, participants will develop and present an elevator-style pitch and be able to receive feedback from peers as well as a panel of professionals. Each pitch will include an illustrative graphic, developed during the conference, which will serve to visually drive the concepts behind the research.
The goal of the conference is to empower the participants to become better storytellers and more engaging scientists.
