Pre-Workshop Requirements

ComSciConCAN is a highly interactive and cooperative event. Several of the meeting sessions will include group workshopping of already-developed science communication pieces. All accepted attendees to ComSciConCAN 2019 are expected to complete the following pre-workshop requirements in advance of attending the workshop. This page currently displays rough estimated dates for when different items will be due. Check back soon for additional details.

Through the "Write-A-Thon", ComSciConCAN attendees develop science communication pieces (articles, videos, audio etc) and workshop them extensively with fellow attendees and science communication experts. Some of these pieces may even go on to be published in major science communication outlets. You can see examples of pieces written by previous ComSciCon attendees here.

Although we call this a Write-A-Thon, if written word isn’t your preferred media for communication you can also submit recorded audio or visual pieces for review!

Details / Submission: More details will be available before acceptances are sent out.

Late-May: First draft due: 2-3 pages (<1000 words) written or 5 minutes of multimedia
Early-June: Peer editing groups assigned
Late-June: Peer edits due

E-Poster (Optional)

ComSciConCAN will feature a poster session highlighting the science outreach, communication, and social media activities of our attendees and several local SciComm organizations. This poster session will utilize ePosterboards, so you won't need to print or transport a physical poster. We are not able to offer posters to all attendees, so we ask interested attendees to submit abstracts. You can see examples of successful abstracts from a previous year's program. Selected attendees will be invited to prepare an electronic poster before the workshop. We'll let you know the status of your poster abstract submission well in advance of the meeting so you have plenty of time to work on the poster.

Late May: Short abstract due

Early July: Submit final electronic poster (selected attendees)

June 18th-20th: E-Posterboard Session
